WCT Certificate in Woodturning Course

The course consists of 8 days in the workshop, normally a Saturday and Sunday every month for 4 months.

 

Each day will commence at 9am and finish at 4:30pm. There will be a maximum of 4 students to 1 tutor, each student will have their own work station with lathe and dust extraction. The venue has anti-fatigue flooring, breakout areas, toilets, tea/coffee and biscuits!

Students will be expected to provide the items below (these are available at the course venue at trade prices if required):

    • chisels

    • sanding equipment (drills, rotary sanders disks/pads etc)

    • paints, lacquer’s, stains etc

    • ppe (face shield, smock, etc)

    • wood

 

The course is designed to provide a training programme of the basic woodturning skills, it is essential that candidates have some woodturning experience in both spindle and faceplate work before commencing the course. It is comprised of the following Training Units:

 

    • Unit C 101 Workshop Safe Working Practices 

    • Unit C 102 Tools and Equipment - Maintenance 

    • Unit C 103 Wood Technology

    • Unit C 104 Spindle Work

    • Unit C 105 Faceplate Work

    • Unit C 106 Finishing

 

A Training and Assessment Logbook is issued to the candidate on the commencement of the course to record the training and assessments. When complete, the training and assessment log is verified by The Worshipful Company of Turners. Upon successful completion, The Worshipful Company of Turners will award the ‘Certificate in Woodturning’.

 

The course fees are £380 for AWGB members and £630 for none members.
